Candlelight at Nottaway

As a young girl, I dreamed of spending my honeymoon at Nottaway. Called "the White Castle of Louisiana" by the daughter of the original owner, it was certainly that majestic to me, with or without the candlelight tour and complimentary champagne.

Share the complete experience with excellent company and -- well, friends, that is a recipe for a cherished memory.

The home "has 365 openings, one for each day of the year," and my favorite of those is a window that opens from the floor and serves as the door to one of the balconies. Had the night not been so chilly, we would have probably spent more time relaxing on the porch; but I think we'll have to return for that.

Our honeymoon was spent at another wonderful plantation home, and I think that an overnight at Nottaway has great potential for our 25th anniversary.

More about the tour, though. *smile*

Tell me that you are familiar with Gone with the Wind. Tell me further that you have seen the Carol Burnett parody of the same. May I jog your memory a little?
According to one tour guide, the curtains in the gentleman's parlor of Nottaway were the inspiration for the ones in the movie that eventually gave rise to the absolutely hilarious comedy sketch. I apologize for blocking a good view of those immortalized curtains, but here we are in the parlor:

Our tour continued from there, up and down beautiful staircases, through the white ballroom (my favorite in the entire home), in and out of bedrooms. Simply put, it is a lovely home.

Night is drawing nigh,

And some wad eat that want it;
But we hae meat, and we can eat,
And sae the Lord be thankit.
